“No Tears Left To Cry” is Pop Perfection

Me on my way to buy Ariana Grande’s new single “No Tears Left To Cry”: I’m picking it up, I’m picking it up, I’m loving, I’m living, I’m picking it up!

FINALLY. The princess of pop, the archduchess of vocals, the goddess of being cute af has released the first single off her new album, the start of a new era of Grande. The song is called “No Tears Left To Cry” (but you knew that already).

In true hype-up fashion, Ariana starting posting hints about and clips of the song and video about a week before finally releasing it as well as the music video for it. When I tell you I’ve been listening to it on repeat for about 2 weeks now, I’m not lying.

From the bits and pieces given on Instagram and Twitter, everyone expected the song to be a slow, powerful ballad reflecting the pain and fear of the Manchester bombing that happened at one of her concerts. We were all ready to cry our eyes out.

“We way too fly to partake in

all this hate, we out here vibing”

But what does young Ariana do? She flips the whole script (of course) and gives us a powerfully positive opposition to the hate. She has taken a stand against all of the negative and painful things happening in our world today and has stated that she (we) have been so broken down that we can’t be hurt anymore. As she says in my favorite lyric: “We way too fly to partake in all this hate, we out here vibing.”

The song is fun and incredibly danceable (though if you’re like me, it’ll just cause you to strut from point A to point B at every opportunity), but it’s clear that it was written in a darker place, with hope and promise of a happier time. It is also clear that, with the events that occurred in Manchester as well as the unsteady climate of the world, Ariana had run out of hope, light, trust, and positivity. “No Tears Left To Cry” is her creating hope from scratch, growing and nurturing light, welding trust, and assembling positivity out of thin air. This song is Ariana’s refusal to be brought down. And, as a fan, it’s easy to feel empowered to do the same. Hopefully, other fans feel the same as I do, and follow suit.

In a time of deep and extensive division, Ariana Grande has delivered to us a unifying, positive anthem that will carry us into an undoubtedly positive summer, and beyond. I thank her giving me another summer full of jams.

The video (below) is probably Ariana’s best yet. The production quality is fantastic and the styling kills me every time I watch it. If you can make it through without getting motion sickness, catch the long-ass braid as she whips it upside down and -uh- side to side (hahaha). I’d love to talk about the video with y’all. Let me know what you think.

Bonus: Ariana has started dropping hints about her next single, “R.E.M.” She’s tweeted what are presumably lyrics and I am so excited! I need more! Keep me updated by sending me more info via Twitter or Instagram, or here in the comments!
